Its even possible to walk in and out of Scotland in one short walk!
    We have teamed up with an Award winning Walking Guide Jon Monks who is also a Hill Shepherd to bring you guided walks, Hiking and walking holidays that will make your short break/holiday a special time you will never forget!
  • Jon started guided walks in 1999 and has grown into the largest walking provider in North East England and covers all aspects of walking in Northumberland and over the years has become renowned for his personal and friendly service when delivering all of his quality services.
  • These are some of the services he can provide:

Map and Compass Training:

  • They will lead you through maps, scales, grid references and how they work before moving onto some basic compass work, including how to create and follow compass bearings.
  • All maps and compasses will be provided for this course.
  • Please bring strong shoes and outdoor gear as part of this course will take place outside, putting into practice what you have learnt in the classroom.
  • 50% Donated to Mountain Rescue
  • 50% of all takings for this course will be donated to Northumberland Mountain Rescue to help fund some of the excellent work they do. The Northumberland National Park Search and Rescue Team is a voluntary organisation. Its members share a common interest in providing an important life saving service 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Book here

Walking Holidays:

As a Providor Jon can offer true quality walking holidays. As him and his team live, walk and work in the region they have brought together some classic walks with excellent local accommodation to give you a chance to sample the beautiful scenery and heritage of the North East of England.
In providing these holidays their focus is on a local service providing a personal touch. they meet you at your arrival point and transfer you to the start point, provide you with maps and information about your route, book your accommodation and transfer your bags, and as they live in the region you can be assured that if you need any assistance at any time of your stay they will never be far away.

Guided Walks:

  • The guides are also available to be hired to provide guided walks for an individual or groups, a walk tailored for you or your group on a date of your choice.
  • Also, we can provide a walk or series of walks in an area and on dates of your choice. This can be for just one day or can include overnight accommodation, transfers and picnic lunches. We can arrange as little or as much as you want. Book here

Educational programmes for School Children:

  • All our programmes are tailored to meet the individual needs of the school. We will take full responsibility for planning and delivering the programme.
  • In addition to working with individual classes, we will provide a whole school or Key Stage assembly, teaching children about the benefits of walking, the equipment used by regular walkers, and how to stay safe whilst walking as well as promoting awareness of the countryside and the creatures within it.   • GPS Training:
  • This one day course is an easy-to-understand introduction to using GPS and digital maps. The aim of the day is that you will leave the course with the skills to use a GPS confidently and safely at a basic level and understand the advantages of linking it to a digital mapping system.
  • The day is a mixture of practical outdoor exercises and classroom activities using GPS with waypoints downloaded from a digital map system. Basic GPS safety techniques will also be considered as well as how to choose a GPS that is right for your needs. Book here
  • Also Advanced:
  • This one day course is all about route planning & creation using digital maps on a PC, transferring to & from a GPS and further practical aspects & features of using the GPS out & about
  • The aim of the course is that you should be able to confidently and safely use the full potential of a combined GPS and digital map system (on the PC) whether at home or abroad.
  • The day will involve downloading and uploading routes and tracks between GPS and digital map systems on a PC with the opportunity to design and walk some routes and practice the skills that have been learnt. Advanced safety techniques will be considered and you'll also learn how to use your GPS abroad with different map systems and download waypoints from the Internet. The latest developments in Geocaching & GeoTrailing™ will also be explained. Book here
